My First Bananagrams Review (Bananagrams)

My First Bananagrams
What It Is

Now even the greenest word builders can play Bananagrams with My First Bananagrams. Packaged in a green banana pouch, this junior version of the classic anagram game aims to ripen a child's interest in wordplay and word games. It comes with 80 single-letter tiles and 13 double-letter tiles that all use lowercase letters. The elevated bottom of each tile indicates letter orientation, and the tiles are different colors to make it easier for kids to tell the letters apart. All of the vowels are yellow.

For the basic game, place all 80 single-letter tiles facedown in the center of the playing space or the “bunch”. All players take 15 single-letter tiles. At the same time, all players turn over their tiles and race to arrange them in their own intersecting word grid. At any time you can swap a tile for a new one. The first player to use all his letters in a grid calls out “bananas”, and if the grid is correct, he wins.

For a more advanced game, mix in the double-letter tiles. There are also mini games to play to help preschoolers recognize letters, help early readers build words, and help readers understand the basics of making word grids.

Is It Fun?
This game is a fun way to introduce the fast-paced word-building play of the original Bananagrams to a younger audience. With multiple activities and mini games, it becomes more than just a game; it's also a way to practice spelling and build early reading skills.
