Star Fox Zero Review (Nintendo)

Star Fox Zero
What It Is

Fox McCloud, Slippy, Peppy, and Falco are back to take on Andross in the new fast-paced, flying adventure, Star Fox: Zero, from Nintendo. This is a new game in the Star Fox series, that takes players through mission-based battles. Players take on the role of Fox McCloud and pilot an Arwing fighter as they battle against waves of enemies and bosses. The game is controlled using the Wii U Game Pad. Players can use their TV screens to view and play the game in standard third-person perspective. They can also look at the Game Pad's screen to get a cockpit view, which provides a first-person perspective of what the action looks like through Fox's Arwing cockpit window. In addition to the flying levels, there are also some levels that require players to convert the Arwing into a Walker.

Is It Fun?

This is a fast-paced game that is in almost constant movement, especially in flight mode. The graphics are crisp, and the second screen on the Game Pad is an interesting use of the technology.

Who It’s For
The game is rated E10+, because of the fantasy violence, which is tamer than most animated TV series. We think kids around the age of 8 and up should be fine with this game. However, it is challenging and definitely a game that teens and adults will enjoy also.
What To Be Aware Of

Star Fox Zero is mainly a single-player game, however two-player co-op is an option.

The controls and use of the Game Pad are complicated and took me some getting used to. I highly recommend checking out the tutorial level, and maybe playing it a second time.

Star Fox Zero is a Wii U exclusive.
