EDITOR'S REVIEW
OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Puzzle & Dragons Z and Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros., edition from Nintendo is two separate games in one game pack. Both games have unique stories. In the Super Mario Bros., edition, Peach has been kidnapped by Bowser. In the Z edition, you have to defeat the evil group, Paradox. Once you get to the puzzles, they are essentially the same Match 3 game. However, there is a lot more going on in these games than with a typical Match 3.

Start each puzzle by creating a team of characters from a roster. In the Super Mario Bros. edition, the characters are familiar Nintendo characters, and in the Z edition, they are dragons and creatures. Next, enter the puzzle, which is on the lower screen of the 3DS. On the upper screen are enemies that you are battling while solving the puzzle. Each match that you make in the puzzle, will launch an attack on the enemies. You get an attack, and then the enemies retaliate. Defeat the enemies and you win that puzzle. The turn-based, attack gameplay is similar to Pokemon games, and Puzzle & Dragons Z also has a large area to explore and a more involved story that is also very Pokemon-like.

Is It Fun?

This game pack includes two unique and challenging RPG/puzzle games for the price of one. If you are looking for a quick, pick-up-and-play game then the Super Mario Bros. edition is the way to go. Anyone looking for a more story-based game will enjoy Z.

Who It’s For

Both games are Rated E for everyone. Kids as young as 6 should have no problem with the gameplay. Puzzle fans of all ages will enjoy the puzzles.

What To Be Aware Of

This game pack is a Nintendo 3DS and 2DS exclusive. The dialogue before reaching the puzzles in Puzzle & Dragons Z was really long. Anyone looking to hop right into a game the first time they play will have to be patient.
