The Maccabee on the Mantel, developed by Toy Vey!, comes with a hardcover book published by Viper Comics and a 10-inch soft soldier toy. The 20-page illustrated book tells the story of Hanukkah through the eyes of the soldier fighting the battle, and then introduces kids to their own Maccabee. Parents can read the book to teach their children why they celebrate Hanukkah, and then incorporate the Maccabee doll any way they'd like. There are suggestions in the back of the book such as hiding the Maccabee nightly during Hanukkah "Afikomen-style" (a Passover tradition), having him join your candle-lighting, or playing the dreidel game alongside him. Parents may wish to use him as a reward for good behavior or even give him to a child to cuddle with at bedtime. Both the book and soldier are packaged in a sturdy gift box for storing until next Hanukkah and for years to come.
You may have heard about the Elf on the Shelf, the popular Christmas tradition (or even the Mensch on a Bench), but for those who celebrate Hanukkah, this is a way to start a fun Hanukkah tradition. We think kids will like being able to exchange stories about their Maccabee similar to the elf. Parents will appreciate that both the book and soft doll are high-quality.
The Maccabee on the Mantel is for ages 3 and up.
However you choose to play with the Maccabee, the manufacturer sees this less as an elf replacement than an opportunity to create new Hanukkah traditions with your family.
You can also purchase the book and stuffed toy solider separately.
