EDITOR'S REVIEW
OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

The Tote & Go Laptop offers 20 interactive activities that introduce preschoolers to a variety of subjects, from letters, numbers, and shapes to animals, foods, and musical instruments. Kids can customize the laptop with their name, age, and favorites, then use the mouse and keypad to select and play the different activities and games. The mouse, which is attached, introduces basic mouse skills, and we think kids in the recommended age range will quickly learn to use it. There are five categories to choose from, each with three to five activities: letters and words, numbers and shapes, animals and foods, logic and games, and music time. Kids will learn letter sounds, order, and capitalization; basic spelling; counting; shapes; which numbers are higher and lower than others; animal sounds; and the sounds different musical instruments make. They can play musician with rock, country, or jazz melodies adding in their choice of funny sounds. A great feature is that the activities include progressive learning levels that gradually increase in difficulty the more your child plays.

Is It Fun?

Kids always want to use mom and dad's laptops, but the Tote & Go Laptop is a good solution to that problem. It's a very affordable toy laptop for preschoolers. It makes a good learning tool and kids will enjoy playing with it. However, the screen may not be as high-def as the computers and tablets kids may be used to seeing. The laptop is sturdy and seems durable, plus it has a handle, making it easy to carry anywhere.

Who It’s For

The Tote & Go Laptop is for ages 3-6.

What To Be Aware Of

The Tote & Go Laptop includes two AA batteries for the in-store try-me features, and VTech recommends replacing them before you play for best results.

We thought the fruits and vegetables activity was slightly off. The first time kids play, they may not easily recognize the pixelated versions of a mushroom or broccoli, but it's not too difficult once they're familiar with it.
