The Darn Yarn Monster Hat Kit from Fashion Angels gives kids all the supplies they need to make a monster-themed yarn hat. The kit includes a circular knitting loom, yarn hook, and 104 yards of pink and purple yarn. Using the pink yarn you'll simply loop two layers of yarn around each peg at a time. Once you make it all the way around, use the included hook to slip the bottom layer of yarn over the top layer and each peg. Continue all the way around your loom, then create a new "second" layer again. Repeat the process until you've reached the end of your pink yarn and get the hat to your desired length you like. To finish, thread the ends together and remove the loops from each peg as you go. You can also create some pom pom ears for your monster hat using the purple yarn and handy pom-pom maker. Glue on the included googly eyes and it's ready to wear.
Yarn crafts can make great cold weather activities for indoors, however for young kids especially they can be difficult to learn. The Darn Yarn's handy loom and hook simplifies the process, making it easy to do, and the result is equally satisfying.
The Darn Yarn Monster Hat Kit is for young crafty kids ages 8 and up.
This is a time-consuming project, but kids who like that will enjoy taking their time to complete the craft. This is going to be a multi-hour, multi-day project. It took us about five hours to get as far as we did, and the hat is still only a little more than half way complete. Kids who have the patience to do this will get the most out of this project.
Be sure to hold the yarn taut while looping around the pegs, otherwise the yarn can quickly unravel.
