EDITOR'S REVIEW
OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

The LeapPad3 is a five-inch, wi-fi-enabled tablet that features LeapSearch powered by Zui, a kid-friendly web environment of videos, games, and more all prescreened by LeapFrog learning experts. Kids can explore videos and pictures in 36 categories, such as pets, drawing, sports, and toys. Kids can also explore content from kid-friendly and LeapFrog-approved websites, such as National Geographic for Kids, TIME for Kids, and Discovery Kids. (External links on those sites are blocked.) And there are a variety of games for kids to play and digital stories to read.

Kids can also use the wi-fi for peer-to-peer chat and gameplay through the included Pet Chat and Pet Pad Party apps, and additional apps that are sold separately. Parental controls, accessed by a four-digit security code, allow parents to manage the wireless settings (including turning off wi-fi access), user profiles, peer-to-peer settings, access to the app center, content, artwork storage, and general device settings.

LeapPad3 comes with 10 apps built in, but you can purchase more from LeapFrog's library of more than 1,200 apps, games, eBooks, videos, and cartridges. As kids play, the LeapPad3 automatically adjusts the learning to offer more challenging play as children's skills develop. Progress is remembered from game to game and book to book.

The tablet has 4GB of memory, a capacitive touchscreen with built-in stylus, 2MP front and back cameras and video recorders, a built-in rechargeable battery, and a 1000MHz processor, which is faster than the LeapPad2. The LeapPad3 is kid-tough with a reinforced frame and break-resistant glass. It's available in green or pink.

Is It Fun?

The LeapPad3 is a great way to give kids their own tablet with age-appropriate and kid-safe content. This packs educational features that parents expect from LeapFrog with fun and engaging activities that make this a satisfying tablet experience for kids.

Who It’s For

The LeapPad3 is for ages 3-9.

What To Be Aware Of

The LeapPad3 runs on a rechargeable lithium battery. It takes four hours for a full charge when using the AC adapter or seven hours when using the USB cord and a computer. The battery life is about six hours, depending on how your child uses the LeapPad3.

In order for the peer-to-peer gameplay to work, your child will need to be in the same room and connected to the same wireless network as a sibling or friend who also has a LeapPad3.
