Kids can make their own iPhone and iPod Touch cases with the Make Your Case iPhone & iPod Touch Case Maker. It comes with case molds for iPhone 5/5S/5C, iPod Touch 5, and iPhone 4/4S. There are also pre-made cases that kids can decorate for those same devices as well as the Samsung Galaxy S3/S4.
Choose the mold that fits your device, and pick one of the two silicone refill colors that are included with the kit. Set up the mixer rod, the mold, and the silicone refill into the mold base per the instructions. Then use the plunger to fill the mold with the silicone. Once the mold cavity is entirely filled, leave everything as is in the mold base and let the silicone in the mold dry for at least two hours. You can use the waiting time to design your case using the included patterned paper and stickers or anything else you'd like to add, such as photographs or cut-outs from magazines.
When your case is dry, carefully remove it from the mold using the pry tool. Use the clipper to remove extra silicone from the edge of the case. To place the case with your decoration on your device, insert one of the clear backings into the case, insert your design directly behind the clear backing so the decorated side faces out, and place your device into the case. You can also stick gem stickers on the outside of the clear backing to complete your design.
Make Your Case comes with a case maker, two silicone refills, three iPhone molds, four pre-made phone cases, an alphabet sticker sheet, a gem sticker sheet, four clear backings, two sheets of design papers, a plunger, two mixer rods, a mold holder, a clipper, and a pry tool. Silicone refills are sold separately for making more cases. Each refill comes with a mixer rod.
For kids who have their own iPhones or iPod Touches, this will be a fun and creative activity. The cases we made turned out okay and fit on our phones. We didn't really think our phones felt super secure inside the cases, though. We think this is more for decoration than protection. The same goes for the pre-made cases. Those are just made from a thin plastic.
Make Your Case iPhone & iPod Touch Case Maker is for ages 8 and up.
The instructions are easy to follow, but there are a few steps where kids will need help from an adult.
Before you begin, make sure you cover your work surface with paper or a towel.
