OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Desmond Pucket and the Mountain Full of Monsters by Mark Tatulli is a 240-page illustrated chapter book that follows monster lover Desmond on his sixth grade field trip to Crab Shell Pier. Desmond's one goal for the day is to get his crush Tina Schimsky to ride the Mountain Full of Monsters ride with him. But it's not going to be easy. Desmond must outwit the tyrannical Mr. Needles and class bully Scott Seltzer to not only ride the ride but also save it from destruction at summer's end.

The back of the book features a More to Explore section with instructions on how kids can create their own monster magic, such as an exploding cake and a light-up zombie head.

Is It Fun?

The book's humor is totally suited to boys ages 7-12, especially boys who love amusement parks and monsters. The story has a couple funny twists to keep readers on their toes. The inclusion of illustrations throughout the book make this a great introduction to chapter books and a way to get reluctant readers interested in reading.

Who It’s For

Desmond Pucket and the Mountain Full of Monsters is for ages 7-12.

What To Be Aware Of
