Science X Secret Codes Review (Ravensburger)

Science X Secret Codes
What It Is

Secret Codes is a mini science kit from Ravensburger's Science X line, which includes all the materials you need to learn different ways to crack codes and the science behind them. There are guides for six different code-cracking activities. Angle Wrap teaches kids about the ancient Greek art of encryption called scytale. Encoded Messages uses the encoding method known as Caesar's Cipher. Mirror Mirror on the Wall encodes and decodes messages by writing letters backwards then using a mirror to decode the encryption. In Knot a Message, the placement of knots on different strings represent different things, such as time, place, and items. Code Cracker uses the special included code templates to decode messages. Invisible Message makes messages magically appear using watercolor paints. Once kids have completed the activities and learned the different encoding and decoding methods, they can then try to decode a larger encrypted message using the included decoding discs.

The kit comes with a knot holder, a packet of strings, two brass fasteners, two decoding discs, a stick of wax, a sheet of paper, a pencil, a mirror, two straws, and an instructions guide.
