LEGO The Hobbit Review (Warner Bros Interactive)

LEGO The Hobbit
What It Is

LEGO: The Hobbit from Warner Bros., is the LEGO game based on the first two Hobbit movies. In the game, you play through familiar scenes and locations from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug. Once the third movie is released, it will be available to play in this game as DLC.

This is a classic LEGO game where you play as characters from the movie, including Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, and all of the dwarves. As you play the game, more characters become available and each character has a unique weapon or tool. You will have to figure out which character's specific ability or weapon is required to get through specific areas.

Like all LEGO games, background objects like rocks and plants can be smashed to give players loot items. In this game, some of the objects also reward players with materials like wood and stone. Those materials can be used to build objects like bridges, that let you progress in the game.

Is It Fun?

LEGO: The Hobbit gives fans of the movie another way to interact with the characters and explore the settings from the movie. It also has all the humor and jokes that the LEGO games are known for.

Who It’s For

Fans of the movie and LEGO games will love this one. It's rated E 10+, but we think kids as young as 6 should be able to play this. There is a bit of comic violence in the game, including a level where players are battling Orcs. Even that violence is done with humor and LEGO style so it's not graphic or alarming.

What To Be Aware Of

We played the PS4 edition of the game and the graphics were stunning. The game's opening pans across the Middle Earth map and it looks just like it does in the movies. The game is also available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PS3, 3DS, Vita, and PC.
