More About Disney Princesses

For today's kids, the Disney Princesses are a wonderful group that inspire all kinds of creative play, encouraging kids to follow their dreams, use their powers and, of course, make wonderfully rich imaginative worlds.

Really, it's been in the last 20 years or so with the change in how kids see movies that the Disney Princesses as a group would have even been possible. For years, kids had one or maybe two based on movies they saw in the theaters, or if they were lucky enough at the Disney theme parks. Now, of course, kids can see all the princesses in one afternoon, if they like, and it's perfectly natural to them that they should all be friends. So, certainly to a child, it makes sense that Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty all live in the same world.

Even the newer princesses starting with Belle have represented a much more self-confident and assured type of woman. Jasmine, Tiana, Moana and Mulan are just four of the women who didn't need a prince to solve problems for them; they did just fine on their own, thank you.

Kids love princesses because they look up to them. They're women who get things done, and who don't let things like a poison apple, a curse or a potential boyfriend who looks a little beastly to stop them. One way or another the Disney Princesses meet every challenge and grow a little - or a lot - in the process.

This is part of what makes these toys so perfect for children as they are developing their own personalities and personal narratives. They get to take on the power of a princess in their play and feel more confident. It's a very positive way to play.

And, of course, the classic stories will inspire kids to play on their own or in concert with other kids. Best of all, there is so much to experience in the world of the Disney Princesses. They each possess unique traits and qualities. Their stories teach people young and old, that with a dream in their heart, a little hard work and by never giving up, everyone can achieve their happily ever after - or pretty darn close. That's the princess magic that appeals to fans of all ages!
