What It Is
Roominate is a new building line for girls. Roominate hones in on play patterns that girls are already drawn to, such as crafting and dollhouses, but does so in a way that invites them to construct, customize, and innovate. The Basic Roominate kit includes four wall/floor panels, 24 furniture-building pieces, 16 connectors, one motor, one switch, one battery pack, and tons of colorful craft paper sized to fit the panels as well as create paper-made room decor. For the most part this kit is very open-ended, but to get you started Roominate does include instructions on how to connect wall and floor panels and lay the groundwork for a room. It also features instructions on how to properly connect the included motor, switch, and battery pack to build a fan. After that it's up to you what kind of room you want to create. Use the included paper to tape to the modular walls or cut out shapes to add room decor. Across the packaging, instruction guide, and Roominate website, ideas are also presented to inspire building.
Is It Fun?
Instead of simply handing girls a pre-fab dollhouse to work with, Roominates supplies girls with a kit of intuitive electronics and modular building pieces that encourages them to think creativity as they build.
We tried to construct a barn using this kit but it became apparent that, unfortunately, the basic kit doesn't include quite enough pieces to make it happen without reaching for outside tools not included. But, attempting to do this alone makes it evident how this kit can spark a young girl's curiosity. You'll find yourself building and rebuilding to create new structures, discovering new ways to utilize the kit's components, and even using the included paper to create miniature accessories for your space as we did.
Who It’s For
