What It Is
In 2013, LeapFrog introduced its LeapReader reading and writing system for preschoolers. Now even younger kids can get ready to read with the LeapReader Junior. The LeapReader Junior is designed to build early reading skills, encourage book exploration, and teach phonics skills and vocabulary for kids, ages 1-3. It comes with a LeapReader Junior Book Pal shaped as either the LeapFrog character Scout or Violet and a LeapReader Junior sampler board book. More than 20 board books, flash cards, and sets compatible with the LeapReader Junior Book Pal are available and sold separately.
To download the audio for additional LeapReader Junior content, you'll need to install LeapFrog Connect on your Mac or PC. The LeapReader Junior Book Pal connects to the computer via an included USB cable, and with 8 MB of memory, it holds audio for up to five books at a time. The LeapReader Junior Book Pal can also be personalized with your child's name through LeapFrog Connect, so that your child will hear her name upon turning on the device and turning it off.
When you place the book pal over characters, words, or pictures in the LeapReader Junior board book, you'll hear fun sound effects, narration, and other audio surprises. Activities throughout the book introduce letters, numbers, and early vocabulary. Kids may also hear questions that encourage them to further explore the book by finding items that are the same color, for example.
Is It Fun?
The chunky LeapReader Junior Book Pal makes it easy for small hands to hold as they discover and play on each page of the board book. This is a fun and interactive tool to introduce young children to early phonics and help them take those first steps toward reading.
