What It Is
The LEGO Movie: Lord Business' Evil Lair from LEGO is a 738-piece building set from The LEGO Movie. The set builds Lord Business' Evil Lair, which is part TV studio and part evil-genius' lab. The set comes with six minifigures each with assorted accessories. The minifigures are Lord Business, Emmet, Vitruvius, Ma Cop, Pa Cop, El Macho Wrestler and Biznis Kitty.
The lair is filled with areas and accessories that give kids all sorts of opportunity for creative, open ended play. They can recreate scenes from the movie or come up with their own adventures. The lair has a studio area with couch and camera, President Business' office with conference table, large doors that open with a lever to reveal The Kragle, which seems to be an evil laser. On the upper level, there is an area called the Think Tank, where unsuspecting victims will have their creativity extracted. There is also a giant battery that powers the Think Tank and a huge Kragle glue tube.
The minifigures work great within the lair. The minifigure Emmet, can be attached to the battery, then sent flying by a trap door and President Business has a hysterical costume that starts with the "Big Boy's Pants" and ends up with him transformed into Lord Business!
Is It Fun?
This set captures the comedy of the movie and incorporates all kinds of unique and humorous pieces that kids will find engaging and funny. Creating outrageous scenes inspired by the movie and the characters will keep players engaged. Kids who have seen the movie will be the most likely to enjoy this because they will know who the characters are, but it's not essential.
Who It’s For
This set is recommended for LEGO fans, ages 8 to 14. However, the level of humor and fantasy is probably going to appeal to kids at the younger end of the suggested age range. Kids who have seen the movie will recognize the characters and pieces but they don't have to see the movie to still get a lot of enjoyment out of this set.
What To Be Aware Of
The directions are excellent and most LEGO builders should be able to complete this set in about an hour-and-a-half.
