What It Is
Star Wars Art: Concept from Abrams is the 4th book in the Star Wars Art series that has been curated by George Lucas himself. The book is a new collection of concept art for various Star Wars projects and it includes 125 color illustrations that span the years from 1975 to the present.
Is It Fun?
The book is filled with pre-production drawings and paintings that were used in the early planning stages of their prospective Star Wars project. Some of the drawings are instantly recognizable as the inspiration for a scene or character in the final work while others never made it to the screen.
The book opens with Ralph McQuarrie's concept art for the original Star Wars movie, A New Hope. These illustrations are beautiful but they are also fairly popular since they have been around for so long which is why it's nice to see that this book dedicates most of the pages to post Return of the Jedi art. The book is filled with art from the prequels, old and recent animated series and different Star Wars video games. The book also has artwork from Star Wars 1313, which is sort of notorious because it's a game that fans were eagerly waiting for but was cancelled when Disney took over the franchise.
Who It’s For
This is a must see for any Star Wars fan and a great addition to any Star Wars collector's collection.
What To Be Aware Of
Aside from the Foreword and Introduction, which are both written by artists that are in the book, this is all pictures so even young Star Wars fans that can't read yet will enjoy flipping through it.
