What It Is
Since 1963, Hasbro's Easy Bake Oven has provided kids with an easy way to bake treats and desserts. A few years ago, the Easy Bake Oven got a makeover with the pink-and-purple Easy Bake Ultimate Oven. And this year, it gets another new look. The special edition black-and-silver color palette of the Ultimate Oven celebrates the Easy Bake Oven's 50th anniversary. (The colors also mimic those in a contemporary kitchen, just as the original avocado green Easy Bake Oven mimicked the colors in a 1960's kitchen.)
Like the pink-and-purple Ultimate Oven, this one includes a heating element similar to a conventional oven or toaster, eliminating the lightbulb that was part of the original Easy Bake Ovens. It also comes with a baking pan, a pan tool, and cookie mix for making 12 chocolate chip cookie bites. You'll need to provide additional tools from your home kitchen, including water, cooking spray, measuring spoons, a mixing bowl, a spoon or spatula, a kitchen timer, and paper towels.
To make the cookies, plug in the Ultimate Oven and turn it on. It will need to preheat for 20 minutes. Make the mix, place the treats on the baking pan, use the pan tool to slide the baking pan in the baking slot, and bake for nine minutes. When the treats are finished baking, use the pan tool to push the pan into the cooling chamber where you'll let your treats cool off for a few minutes. Then slide the baking pan out of the oven using the pan tool.
Is It Fun?
For 50 years, kids have grown up making Easy Bake treats, and now this classic toy has been revamped so today's kids can celebrate that milestone and also engage in baking fun. The illustrated instructions are easy for kids to follow, which gives them the satisfaction of being able to bake something on their own. This is great for girls and boys who love watching cooking shows and baking shows on TV because it lets them pretend to be just like the professional chefs they admire.
Who It’s For
The Easy Bake Ultimate Oven is for ages 8 and up, but we think younger kids can do it particularly when grown-ups participate. In fact, for any young baker, adult participation is strongly recommended, especially for first-time bakers.
What To Be Aware Of
Make sure you turn off and unplug the oven when you're done.
The resulting creations, though delicious, are small, so portions are snack size.
Parents of children with food allergies should read all contents carefully before playing.
Additional optional tools that you might want to provide are plastic sandwich bags and scissors.
There are several refill packs available, including Mini Whoopie Pies and Cheese Pizza. Each is sold separately.
Food mixes may cause staining. Cover your workspace with wax paper or a plastic mat, and avoid spilling food on clothing. If dry mix is spilled, use a broom or vacuum to clean it up. If wet mix is spilled, wash immediately with soap and water.
