- My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear from My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear
- We recommend this product for ages 3 and up
What It Is
My Baby's Heartbeat Bear is a special gift for new parents and new babies. Each stuffed animal comes with a plastic heart that records your baby's actual heartbeat, and then can be placed inside the stuffed animal. Whenever you press the animal's belly, you'll be able to hear your baby's heartbeat.
There are several animals to choose from, including bear, giraffe, owl, elephant, monkey, and frog. The recording device is simple to use. Parents take the red heart to an ultrasound appointment. The doctor will use the ultrasound machine to find the baby's heartbeat and when the heartbeat is audible, just hold the red heart up to the machine and press down on the button to record the baby's heartbeat. Then flip the switch on the heart from "record" to "play". Open the closure on the back of the animal, insert the red heart inside, and close the animal. Every time you squeeze the stuffed animal, you'll hear the baby's heartbeat. As children get older, parents can also record special messages for their children to hear when they squeeze the stuffed animal. You can also record your baby babbling and then give this to a grandparent.
Is It Fun?
My Baby's Heartbeat Bear makes a great baby shower gift for a mom-to-be. It's a nice keepsake item for parents so they can listen to their baby's heartbeat whenever they want before baby arrives. It can also be given to grandparents-to-be and other family members. Parents can also use the heartbeat recording to explain to a brother- or sister-to-be about the new baby that's on the way.
Who It’s For
This is for ages 3 and up, but that's based on safety. Toys should not be put in the cribs of newborns, so this is really more for mom and dad than a toy for baby.
What To Be Aware Of
Batteries are included, but the packaging materials do not mention anything about what kind of batteries these are. We noticed that on the compartment on the back of the heart, there appears to be an image of a button cell battery, which leads us to believe that these are the batteries the heart requires. Still, we were not able to figure out how to open the battery compartment, so you might have to take this to a watch repair shop to replace the batteries. The only information we could find about batteries on the My Baby's Heartbeat Bear website was that the batteries will need to be replaced, but the recorded heartbeat will not disappear.
There is no way to save your recordings. If you want to record new heartbeats or a new message, it will record over the previous recording.
My Baby's Heartbeat Bear is available to purchase online from www.mybabysheartbeatbear.com or at specialty stores and select ultrasound clinics.
