What It Is
Codigo Cube (pronounced Ko-DEE-Go Cube) is a small plastic cube with colorful QR codes on each side. With this cube, kids and adults can play a trivia game just by scanning the QR codes with an iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Once you purchase Codigo Cube, access CodigoCube.com/Reader to download the appropriate Codigo Cube QR Reader app for your device. (This is a free download.) Then you're ready to scan and play.
Scan any side of the cube to activate the game. There are three games to play. Quick Play covers all trivia categories. Pick Six allows each player to pick six categories. And Random Six allows the computer to select the six categories that all players will play. There are a variety of trivia categories including entertainment, sports, science, geography, famous quotes, and more.
Once you pick your game, choose the number of players, enter all the players' names, and choose the difficulty level: easy, medium, difficult, and random. Then press the scan button in the top righthand corner to activate the QR Reader so that the first player can roll the cube and scan the QR code that lands facing up. That player is then asked a multiple choice question, and if he answers correctly, he gets to roll the cube and scan again. If he answers incorrectly, it's the next player's turn. You score 10 points for each question you answer correctly. However, you only score once per QR code color. So if you roll the blue code and earn 10 points, then roll it again on your next turn, even if you answer the question correctly, you won't earn any points. The first player to correctly answer six questions, one for each colored QR code, wins the game. That player is then given the option to tweet about their win or "like" Codigo Cube on Facebook.
Is It Fun?
Playing Codigo Cube is easy to do. Because you're playing on a smart device and scanning a small cube that is easy to throw in a purse or bag, playing the game on the go is also very easy and convenient. The game can be played with friends, or you can challenge yourself to see how much trivia you know. You don't have to be a trivia buff to play this game, but you do need to own an iPhone, iPad, or Android device, which are sold separately, of course.
Who It’s For
Codigo Cube is for ages 13 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
We had some trouble getting the QR Reader to scan the QR codes. If you also have trouble, make sure the camera lens is clean and you can get a sharp focus on the code. Also make sure you are playing in good light and that there are no shadows on the cube. If necessary, pick up the cube to get the best light on the code. Also, try holding the device farther away and moving it in slowly. Every device has a different focal length. For some, the cube has to be 10 to 12 inches away from the device. When we used the cube with an iPad, the iPad had to practically be right on top of the cube to scan the code. Trying these tips was helpful for us, but we still had issues with the app reading the blue side of our cube.
Android phones must be running at least version 2.2.2 and have a 3+ megapixel auto focus camera in order to run the Codigo Cube app.
On the bottom righthand corner of the app, there is a door. If you click on the door, you will be logged out of your game, and you'll have to start all over.
For younger kids, there are a variety of Codigo Cube versions. Kidz is for ages 3 and up, while Teen, Entertainment, and Sports are for ages 9 and up. Each is sold separately.
