What It Is
In The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle, a chameleon wanders into a zoo and wonders what would happen if he could change not only his color but also his size and shape, too. He picks parts of all the different animals to change into, such as being big and white like a polar bear, being smart like a fox, the ability to swim like a fish, and being smart like an elephant. This results in hilarious mixed-up results. But in the end, the chameleon likes just being himself.
Is It Fun?
Author and illustrator Eric Carle's signature visuals create a fun and colorful read in this book. Kids will really enjoy following the story with its simple, repetitive plot, learning colors as the chameleon changes to fit his environment and watching the hilarious mish mash of a creature being created as a different animal's body part is added to the illustration on each page.
