What It Is
Touch of Velvet is an egg-decorating kit that uses double-sided adhesive shapes and flocking powder to create velvety designs on Easter eggs. The kit comes with 50 adhesive shapes, six dye tablets, three velvet powder pouches, and an egg dipper.
Start with clean, cool, hard-boiled eggs. Dissolve the dye tablets in separate cups with either vinegar, lemon juice, or water for either ultra-vibrant, traditional-colored, or pastel-colored eggs, respectively. Once the tablet has dissolved (PAAS says these tablets dissolve in less than three minutes.), add ½ cup water and stir gently. Gently place the eggs in the color until the desired shade is obtained. Remove the eggs, drain well, and let dry.
Once dry, peel the stickers and apply firmly to the eggshells. Spinkle a small amount of velvet powder on top of the sticker. Gently press down on the velvet powder to adhere the powder to the sticker. The velvet powder will not rub off once it has been applied to the sticker.
Is It Fun?
Dyeing Easter eggs is a fun and creative activity that families can do together. This kit gives this classic activity an update. Instead of just dyeing Easter eggs, kids can also add texture and dimension to their egg designs with the stickers and velvet powder.
Who It’s For
The Touch of Velvet kit is for ages 3–12.
What To Be Aware Of
Make sure you protect your work surface before using the dyes, stickers, and velvet powder. These super concentrated dyes may stain certain surfaces and fabrics. Use soap and water to aid in clean-up.
We didn't think the dye tablets dissolved that quickly, however, the back of the package does say that dissolving time depends on method and tablet.
