- Twirly Q’s from Klutz
- We recommend this product for ages 10 and up
What It Is
With Twirly Q's, a new craft and activity book from Klutz, kids can make cute creations from cardboard coils. Each cute creature starts as a handful of corrugated cardboard strips in an assortment of colors. Wind the strips into coils, then press them onto custom shaping forms to create round bellies and full dimensions that bring each character to life. Next, assemble the pieces with Klutz's specially formulated tacky glue. Finally, add eyes and a few distinctive paper curls and flourishes. Kids can make a sweet mouse, a purple penguin, and a plump bunny, just to name a few.
Is It Fun?
The level of creativity is high and the materials are appealing, but this is definitely for kids who have the patience to take the time required to assemble the creations.
Who It’s For
Twirly Q's is for ages 10 and up.
It is for children who love arts and crafts projects and who have the patience to do this and an ability to follow directions.
What To Be Aware Of
Even though the instructions are illustrated and step-by-step, some of them are still hard to follow, and some of the Twirly Q's creations are just plain difficult to make. The finished product is really cute, but it will take time and patience in order to complete each of the projects in the Twirly Q's book. Kids will want to start off with the easier projects and work their way up toward the more difficult creations. Kids might also need mom and dad to help out.
Aside from the tools included in the book, you will also need a small pair of scissors and a damp paper towel or cloth. This is to wipe your fingers clean after you smear the glue. The glue can get very messy, and if you don't clean your hands often, you'll end up with spots of glue where you don't want them. We found it difficult to get the glue off our hands.
In order to make some creations, you'll have to glue pieces together and wait for them to dry. It can take 30 minutes to an hour for the glue to dry, which may make the process too long for some kids.
