Felt Tales are two-dimensional storyboards with felt pieces. Kids can move the pieces around and stick them anywhere on the board as they create their own stories. There are a variety of themed Felt Tales: Pretty Princess, Cinderella, Dinosaur Days, Forest Fairies, Let's go to the Farm, Let's go to the Ballet, Happy Tails, and Heroes to the Rescue. Each colorful set comes with more than 20 felt pieces.
This is a fun way for kids to get creative and come up with their own stories. The pieces stick and remove easily, although we did find that the felt pieces don't stay stuck to the board very well. Felt Tales will engage preschoolers in lots of open-ended play.
Felt Tales are for ages 3 and up.
While these will likely be very new to today's kids, parents—and most likely grandparents—will probably remember felt boards from their childhoods and schools, making this a great classic play experience to share intergenerationally.
For younger kids, co-play with a parent, caregiver or sibling can encourage imaginative storytelling and the development of language skills as kids create and change the scenes.
We found that the felt pieces were a little too small, making them easy to lose. You might want to keep them in a plastic zip-top bag to make sure you don't lose any pieces.
If the pieces or the board gets dirty, you can lightly dab them with tape or a lint remover.
