- About Face from eeBoo
- We recommend this product for ages 3 and up
What It Is
In About Face, leaves, ribbons, coins, seashells, paper clips, and a variety of found objects combine to make faces. About Face comes with 160 double-sided cards. On each side is an image of a different object: acorns, rubber bands, a mini stapler. Each object is photographed in a way that it looks like a body part. For example, the acorns can be a nose. The rubber bands can be hair. And the mini stapler looks like a nose. Kids put the image cards together to create faces.
While About Face can be played with friends, it is more of an activity than a game, and there are several suggestions for how to play. Kids can sort the images by category and make faces using only items found near the shore or using only smooth materials. Kids can also make faces using objects that seem to be the most different from one another. Another suggestion is to use the image cards to make a portrait of someone by choosing the objects that best evoke that person.
Is It Fun?
About Face asks kids to use their imaginations to transform an item (Christmas light) into something else that it resembles (nose). Kids will enjoy the built-in silliness of making up all kinds of faces. About Face gets kids thinking creatively in terms of making faces out of random objects and coming up with their own ways to play with About Face.
Who It’s For
About Face is for ages 3 and up.
This is clever and creative conceptually, but its got limited repeat play because of the repetitive nature of the face making process. Parents might want to complement this with a box full of found objects from around the house so kids could create their own collages without the limitations of this game.
What To Be Aware Of
About Face is made from 90-percent recycled greyboard and soy-based inks.
