What It Is
Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure takes five of Pixars’ most popular and loved movies, “The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille,” “Up,” “Cars” and “Toy Story” and presents them as areas in a theme park, called Pixar Park. Each movie has its own distinct area that you visit by running around a central hub. Once in an area, you are transported into a game that is based on the movie.
Is It Fun?
The five movie-themed areas have multiple games, called missions, and each one does a great job of pulling you into the movie’s world. The game begins with the Kinect scanning your body to create an avatar. Your avatar will then be transformed in each world to match the movie, which is a really cool touch. The best example is seeing your avatar as a car in the Cars area.
As with most Kinect games, Kinect Rush is an active game that will have you jumping around and having fun.
Who It’s For
This is a little kid’s game and while adults will enjoy playing with the kids in their lives, We don’t see anyone over the age of 12 loving Kinect Rush. As for the target audience age group of roughly 4 to 10, fans of the Pixar movies are going to enjoy Kinect Rush far more than non-fans.
What To Be Aware Of
Kinect Rush uses the Kinect and your body as the controller and controlling your game avatar can be tricky. You move forward by swinging your arms forward and back. You turn left and right by turning your shoulders in the direction you want to go. This system works fine in the main hub area but many of the games require precise movements, such as navigating along a thin path or making a sharp turn. Pulling off these precise movements is glitchy and might take you several frustrating attempts.
This game requires Kinect for Xbox 360.
With five unique areas and multiple missions in each area, Kinect Rush will have kids returning to play fairly often. Most missions have a central objective, such as getting from the start point to a finish point, but also feature items to collect and hidden areas that add a reason to return to a previously played mission.
