What It Is
Kinect Star Wars is the first Star Wars game designed exclusively for Kinect on Xbox 360 with a purely controller-free experience. There are five unique modes – the main story mode, Pod Racing, Dance Mode, Rancor Rampage and Jedi Duel – that give you five different Star Wars games on one disc. The story mode has players working through an adventure as a Jedi, armed with a lightsaber and the power of The Force.
Is It Fun?
The story mode is about as close to a Jedi as you can get without searching the swamps of Dagobah for Yoda. Thrusting your arm out will create a Force Push and propel enemies and objects around the screen. Large items, such as space ships, can be lifted by raising both your arms and grabbing the ship with The Force.
The additional modes are fun and funny and have a party-game feel to them. The most ridiculous, yet fun, of these is Dance Mode. Dance Mode is like a Star Wars themed Dance Central or Just Dance game. Like other dance games, you have to match the dance moves of the on-screen characters. Unlike other dance games, Star Wars Dance takes popular songs and gives them a Weird Al-like Star Wars twist that rewrites the lyrics for the Star Wars universe. For example Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” becomes “Hologram Girl”.
Who It’s For
Star Wars fans of all ages will love this game. It’s perfect for families to play together and parents are going to have as much fun as their kids when they play some of the goofier modes like Dance and Rancor Rampage. However, this is not a game for hard core gamers or anyone looking for a mature Star Wars game.
What To Be Aware Of
This game is exclusively for Xbox 360 and requires Kinect.
For the most part, I didn’t notice a lag between my movements and the game’s translating those movements to the character. There was some lag and unresponsiveness during the Jedi Duel game, but the other modes appeared to work well with Kinect.
You need a large, clear area in front of your TV for this game because you will be doing a lot of arm swinging and jumping.
Kinect Star Wars is five different games on one disc and each game has multiple options, settings and levels, which adds up to tons of repeat play.
