What It Is
My Bug Box is part of Safari Ltd.'s Safariology line of educational toys designed to engage young children in learning about the past and present inhabitants of Earth. This science-based kit features three top compartments equipped with magnifying lenses for close-up bug viewing and one large compartment that can hold water or twigs to make a comfortable habitat for kids' favorite creatures. Accessories include tweezers, a handheld magnifier, a journal for record keeping and sketching, and a carrying strap. My Bug Box is made of durable, high-quality acrylic that is pthalate- and lead-free.
Is It Fun?
Young children are fascinated by bugs, and My Bug Box indulges kids' curiosity about the little creatures all around them. This is not for kids who are squeamish when it comes to bugs, as they'll need to go out in nature and actually catch a bug to put inside My Bug Box. (Although, if someone else does the catching, watching the bugs inside My Bug Box might pique these kids' curiosity—as long as the bug stays inside My Bug Box.) But for kids who don't mind getting a little dirty, they'll enjoy observing the live bugs under the magnifying lenses.
Who It’s For
My Bug Box is for ages 4 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
For the youngest kids, parents will want to supervise the kids and provide specific guidance about what bugs are and aren't appropriate for this type of play. In other words, ladybugs, yes; bees and wasps, probably not.
