What It Is
The Little Tikes Count 'n Play Cash Register is a pretend cash register designed to help preschoolers match colors, sizes, and numbers. The register has a money display button on the top. When you push it, the image on the display changes. For example, it might show three yellow coins or one purple coin and two orange coins. Kids then find the right coins to make a match. They can slide the coins down the coin slot and watch them come out on the side in the change bin. Kids can also place the coins into the appropriate slots on the front of the register. The orange coins will only fit in the orange slot, the purple coins only fit in the purple slot, and the yellow coins only fit in the yellow slot. Pull down on the handle to open up the drawer and hear a ding noise. Slide the pretend credit card through the slot to drop all the coins in the front slots down into the drawer.
The Count 'n Play Cash Register comes with a pretend credit card, a pretend $10 bill, three yellow coins, three purple coins, and three orange coins.
Is It Fun?
Kids often accompany mom and dad to the store and are witness to what goes on at the register. Preschoolers want to be just like mom and dad and have the same grown-up experiences. This pretend cash register lets preschoolers play out what they see their parents doing at the store, while also practicing matching skills, building fine motor skills, and engaging in imaginative play.
Who It’s For
The Little Tikes Count 'n Play Cash Register is for ages 2 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
The play activity is very good for developing fine motor skills, particularly pincer movements in the hands. It also helps with sorting skills and understanding concepts such as different sizes. The design of the coins is easy for small hands to grasp.
In order to change the money display, you have to press the button with a pretty good amount of force. Young children might need help from mom or dad to do that.
