What It Is

What It Is

Following in the footsteps—or tire tracks—of Rocky the Robot Truck and Stinky the Garbage Truck comes Smokey the Fire Truck from Mattel's Matchbox brand. Like his predecessors, Smokey has a great attitude, lots of songs, and action, including an animated face and lights. Smokey has more than 95 phrases and sounds. There are three modes of play. In basic six-wheel mode, Smokey has lights and sounds. Pull back on the lever to change him to singing and dancing mode. The singing and dancing is random, selecting from four different songs. (You may have to activate him several times to get him to go through his paces.) In water cannon mode, pull the lever all the way back, and Smokey will fire three different balls (that represent water) from his water cannon.

Why It’s Fun

Smokey the Fire Truck offers great character play for kids as they interact with Smokey. Kids will enjoy Smokey's humor and all the different actions they can make Smokey do.

Who It’s For

Smokey the Fire Truck is for ages 3 and up. Kids who love trucks will especially like Smokey.

What to Be Aware of

It took about 20 minutes to get Smokey out of the package, so take your time.

There is a little plastic piece that helps keep Smokey upright in the package, and it took a while for us to discover it was there. It needs to be removed in order for Smokey to operate fully. There's no information about that in any of the directions, but you need to take it out and throw it away.

There's also a slip of paper that we almost missed telling you that if Smokey starts to behave erratically, you can reset the electronics by turning him off and on.

Smokey is a little loud, so kids shouldn't get right down by the truck when it's talking or singing.

Smokey comes with four temporary C-Size batteries that power the in-package Try-Me feature. Mattel recommends that for best results you replace them.

Smokey is designed for indoor use only, as dirt or sand could clog up the mechanism.
