What It Is

What It Is

Flip Six is a new card game where the object of the game is to get the lowest score possible. It's sort of like the card game Golf that's played with a traditional deck of cards, but Flip Six has some new rules and a different card deck. Starting each round with six cards, players try to reduce their points by getting rid of and/or trading the cards for lower-numbered cards.

At the beginning of each round, each player receives six cards laid face down in two rows of three. Each player picks two of his or her cards to turn over, one in the top row and one in the bottom row. On your turn, draw a card from the draw pile. Do you want to keep this card and replace one of your other cards with it or do you want to discard the drawn card? It gets tricky because you only know two of the cards you have. You may draw a four and decide to replace it with one of your face down cards. But when you turn over your card, you find that it's a two. Because you are trying to get the lowest score possible, you've made a not so desirable move by swapping a two with a four. The end of a round occurs when one of three things happens: 1. All of a player's cards have been turned face-up, 2. A player has discarded all six cards, or 3. A player thinks he has the lowest score and calls to end the round. (If you choose option three and don't have the lowest score, you must double your total points.) After 10 rounds the player with the lowest cumulative score wins.

Flip Six comes with 55 numbered cards, including negative numbers, and instructions. It is for two to four players.

Why It’s Fun

This is a fun family card game that can be played at the dining room table or on the go. You don't need any special skills—aside from basic addition and subtraction—to be able to play Flip Six. There's some strategy involved, but it really comes down to taking chances on your unknown cards and, hopefully, getting lucky.

Who It’s For

Flip Six is for ages 6 and up.

What to Be Aware of

This is a good game for teaching kids about risk and odds. It combines thinking and strategy with chance.
