What It Is
What It Is
Today's parents might remember a fun fashion accessory from the '90s called the Slap Bracelet. Well, these bracelets are back in a new way as Slaplets. Slaplets are silicone-covered metal bracelets that go on your wrist with a slap. Each Slaplet includes three colored Slaplinx, which are mini silicone bands, that kids can remove and trade with friends to decorate their Slaplet, rather than actually trading the complete bracelets. Slaplets are made of 100 percent hypoallergenic silicone and come in six colors: red, blue, white, black, purple, and pink. More colors will be available soon. Also available are 12-packs of Slaplinx, which retail for about $5.99.
Why It’s Fun
Kids today are into all sorts of collectible silicone bracelets, but what makes Slaplets different is the slap-on feature. Bottom line: it's fun to put on Slaplets! Kids will also like trading and personalizing their bracelets with the Slaplinx.
Who It’s For
Slaplets are for ages 4 and up.
What to Be Aware of
Slaplets will be available at Michael's craft stores starting in April.
There are some ground rules that need to be set with Slaplets. Don't slap yourself or others with excessive force. It was this kind of behavior that got the original Slap Bracelets banned from many elementary schools in the '90s. However, those were metal. The reason that these are more expensive is that the silicone covering will prevent injuries that were common with the original, inexpensive ones. Still, appropriate play is advised.
