The year my daughter turned 7, slumber party-themed birthdays were incredibly popular. Many parents were not crazy about letting 6 and 7 year olds have sleepover parties yet so the theme was a hit. My daughter asked for a slumber party-themed birthday so I wanted to come up with a cute goodie bag/gift for the girls who attended the party. Thanks to Pinterest, I was instantly inspired to create these personalized pillowcases.
Supplies
• pillowcase
• fabric
• thread
• scissors
• heat bond
• iron and board
• Cricut cutter and cartridges
The first thing I did was throw all the pillowcases into the washer/dryer and then I ironed them. I then picked out the fabric and attached the heat bond to it.
It is so simple to attach heat bond, the directions are easy to follow. Iron your fabric piece then lay the heat bond (paper side up) on your fabric. On the cotton setting with no steam, iron the heat bond to your fabric.
Next peel the paper of the heat bond and then smooth it onto your Cricut mat. Make sure there are no bubbles and that the fabric is right side up. I use the cartridge box to make sure the fabric is smooth and completely attached. Set your Cricut to these settings to cut fabric: Blade 4, Speed 2 (low), Pressure 4 (high). Then use your machine to cut out your letters.
After the letters are cut out, the fun begins. You will need to iron the letters onto each pillowcase. Use the same settings as before. I proceed much slower here to make sure each letter is bonded well to the pillowcase. After each pillowcase is done you can either stop here or you can add a decorative stitch to the names, which I did.
While doing this, I learned that I need to work on making turns while sewing and that this was such a long process. But I knew I would not be happy with the finished product had I not added the decorative stitch. I used my sewing machine but you can do a hand stitch if you prefer.
Each girl got a pancake cookie, a pillowcase, and popcorn. The parents—and the girls—loved the gifts, especially since there was not a lot of the junky treats that sometimes come in goodie bags.
