Microsoft Buying Skype

Last week, rumors were floating around the Internet that FaceBook or Google were going to buy Skype. Today we have found out that neither company will add the wildly success video chat company to their portfolios because Microsoft just did. So how much money does a successful internet business cost these days? Apparently $8.5 billion. That’s how much Microsoft is paying for Skype.

So why do I care about this businessy deal? Because Microsoft has already said that Skype will support Microsoft devices like Xbox and Kinect, which means we should eventually be able to make Skype calls using Kinect and that is pretty rad. Just imagine video chating with your far-flung family members on your big screen TV while accessing the video controls by swiping your hands in the air. Sign me up!

Don’t worry if you currently use Skype on an Apple or Google device because Microsoft also said that they will continue to invest in and support Skype clients on non-Microsoft platforms.
