Box Office: 300 Rise to Top, Peabody Travels to 2nd

The weekend’s two new releases, 300: Rise of an Empire and Mr. Peabody & Sherman, claimed the top spots on the list.

The 300 sequel came in first with $45.o5 million. When adjusted for inflation, that’s about half of the original 300’s opening, but its still an impressive debut for a March sequel. The weekend was less impressive for Mr. Peabody & Sherman, which opened in second with $32.5 million. By comparison, DreamWorks Animation’s last two March releases, The Croods and How to Train Your Dragon, both opened above $40 million.
