The Berenstain Bears Learn to Share game from Patch Products is a basic race game based on the Berenstain Bears and teaching the positive lessons of sharing. Players take turns dropping the die into the treehouse die slide, then advance to the matching shape and color space. Roll a frown and draw a "Get In Trouble" card, which usually sends you back a few spaces. Roll a smile and draw a "Do Something Nice" card. You can play these immediately if you give the card to another player or hold onto it. If you draw a "Get In Trouble" card and you're holding a "Do Something Nice" card with the same background color, they cancel each other out and you stay put for a turn. Be the first player to the finish to win the game.
While we love the Berenstain Bears and this game's subtle yet effective message of sharing, we think the mechanics of this game are a little too complex for younger kids. The gameplay moves slowly since you have a one-in-three chance of rolling one of the face sides of the die on each turn. Combine this with the number of spaces and it can take a long time to move around the board.
The Berenstain Bears Learn to Share game is for ages 4 and up.
We also had trouble with our game's die slide mechanism; the die tended to get caught relatively often.
