What It Is
The LeapPad2 Custom Edition is identical to the 2013 redesign of the original LeapPad but with one addition-the ability to customize the faceplate and the wallpaper. The unit comes with 10 adhesive faceplates, including two that you can color yourself, and 11 different wallpapers, so kids can customize their LeapPads the way their parents customize their devices. Kids can scroll through the different wallpapers to create the exact look they want.
In other respects, the LeapPad is still a powerful tablet for preschoolers. Since our earlier reviews, the library has grown to more than 800 games, apps, music, videos, and more, all of which have been reviewed and approved by the LeapFrog educator team. The technical specs are the same as the most recent LeapPad2 with 4 GB of storage space, a fast 550 MHz processor, and an easy-to-use touchscreen with a stylus.

Is It Fun?
It's worthwhile to repeat that we really are big fans of the LeapPad. Kids still get the same great LeapFrog play that remembers and adjusts to each child's individual progress. The responsiveness of the touchscreen more closely replicates adult tablets than other preschool tablets. And each of the different activities available on the LeapPad2 engages kids in fun ways to build skills in reading, math, science, vocabulary, and more.
Who It’s For
The LeapPad2 Custom Edition is for ages 3-9.
What To Be Aware Of
The adhesive labels are very easy to apply, though it's recommended that an adult do it to make sure everything lines up correctly. The wallpapers are easy to change, too.
The LeapPad takes four AA batteries that are required but not included, and a separate recharger pack is available for $39.99.
Any app you previously purchased for the LeapPad will work. And other accessories are sold separately.
