What It Is

The Boxcar Children series is about four siblings who were orphaned as young children. Not liking the prospect of living with their not-so-friendly grandfather, they ran away and hid in a boxcar. One day, they were found by their grandfather, who turned out to be a very nice and wealthy man. They moved in with him and began solving mysteries and going on adventures together. In this installment, the Alden children visit Oregon and find a backpack in the woods filled with expensive jewelry. When the children learn that it fell from a plane, the mystery gets even stranger. They set out to learn who the backpack belongs to and how it seemed to fall from the sky.

Is It Fun?

Since 1942, youngsters have been drawn to The Boxcar Children books because of the adventure and excitement. As with many of the books in the series, this compelling mystery has the same intrigue that engages young readers and fires up their imaginations.
