- Appletters from Bananagrams
- We recommend this product for ages 5 and up
What It Is
Appletters is a fun word-building game from Bananagrams. The game can be played with two to four players or played solo. In a two-four player game, players start by placing all the letters face down in the center of the table. Players then draw a letter and the closest to "A" starts the game. Then, players grab a set number of tiles from the center of the table. For two players, for example, you'll each draw 15 tiles. Then working together, players work to form a word "worm."
At the start of each turn players must pick and discard one of their tiles. Play continues until one player uses up all his or her letters first and is declared the winner. If you reach a point in the game when no player can make a word from their tiles, the winner is declared as the person with the fewest tiles left.
Is It Fun?
A mix between Bananagrams and Scrabble, we think this is a fun and fast word-building game. We also like the discard rule for each turn—even if you might have the perfect word, everything can change with the discard of a letter. We think this definitely makes the game play more interesting. And in terms of educational value, we think it's a fun brain-building exercise to aid in your child's spelling skills.
Who It’s For
Appletters is for ages 5 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
Unlike Scrabble, where you can build words almost anywhere, Appletters' word "worm" requires players to build words off the head or tail of a word.
In addition to the 2-4 player game, additional instructions are included for solo play, as well as additional multi-player games.
You can also lengthen existing words in order to build another word.
