What It Is
Head's Up! is a new party game based on the popular app as seen on The Ellen Degeneres Show, but with this version, you don't need a phone or tablet to play. Each player puts on a headband, and one player starts out as the Guesser. The other players are Clue Givers. Choose one of four categories to play and draw six cards from that chosen category card deck. Categories include Act It Out where players act out the action or item on the card without talking, Superstars where players describe celebrities without saying the celebrity's name, Hey Mr. DJ where players hum or whistle a song so that the Guesser will correctly guess the artist's name and song name, and Dynamic Duos (which is exclusive to this game) where players describe the duo on the card without saying the words or names on the card.
The Guesser places all six cards into his headband with the words facing out. When you turn over the 60-second sand timer, the Clue Givers start giving clues at the same time about what's on the card. If the Guesser gets the first card correct, move to the second card, and so on. The turn is over when time expires or when the Guesser has answered or passed on all six cards. The Guesser earns one chip for each correct answer. The game ends when all the chips have been taken, and the player with the most chips wins.
Head's Up! comes with six headbands, 48 chips, 200 cards, and a sand timer. The game is for two to six players.
Is It Fun?
This game is sort of a combination of multiple popular party games, such as Name That Tune, Charades, and Taboo. We like that there are four ways to play, and the fast-paced nature of the game adds urgency and challenge. If you're a fan of the app, this is a different no-tech way to play the game at home. But you don't need to be familiar with the app to play and enjoy this fun party game.
