What It Is
The InnoTab 3 Baby is designed to be your baby's very first tablet. It has a 4.3-inch color touchscreen and pretty much everything else you'd expect from a child's tablet except wi-fi capabilities. For children under the age of 3, this comes with a protective case that is also easier for babies to hold when playing. The InnoTab 3 Baby can be removed from this case as kids get older. For both babies and preschoolers, this tablet comes with an integrated e-reader and story dictionary and 18 apps that introduce shapes, colors, numbers, music, and baby sign language. An Animal Photo Album cartridge is also included. Using VTech's Learning Lodge, which you will need to access by connecting the tablet to a computer via the included USB cable, parents can download more educational content, such as ebooks, games, videos, and music. Because this tablet is geared for kids 1–9, there is a broad range of subjects that can be downloaded. Parents can also personalize the tablet with a message for the child that plays whenever he or she turns on the tablet. For babies, this tablet has three specific games that encourage learning shapes, colors, and animals. For older kids, parents can program the included calendar with important dates and homework assignments. Also included in the Organizer suite is a calculator, notes app, and digital/analog clock.
The InnoTab 3 Baby features a tilt sensor to interact with games and a 2MP camera that rotates 180 degrees. There are more than 50 photo features and effects for your images. There is also an MP3 music player, video player, built-in microphone, and headphone jack along with a pop-up keyboard on the screen and a stylus. There is also a D-pad controller for manual selection. The InnoTab 3 Baby includes 2GB of memory that you can increase to 32GB by inserting an SD memory card, which is sold separately. It's compatible with both Mac and PCs.
Is It Fun?
Overall, this is a good tablet for the price. We did think the screen on this tablet was a bit small for a younger child, and sometimes when moving between apps, the reaction time is a bit long. For eager little explorers, this might seem like an eternity and they might lose interest. But for big kids, this can be a fun tablet of their very own, especially with the added features of calendar reminders and the camera.
