What It Is
Laser Maze is a single-player beam-bending logic game from Thinkfun. The game comes with a game grid, 60 challenge cards, and 11 game tokens, which include one lazer, five target mirrors, two beam splitters, one double mirror, one checkpoint, and one cell blocker. Players select one of the 60 challenge cards from the card deck. The object of the game is to arrange the laser and tokens on the grid in such a way that when activated the lazer will project across the board's targets and hit the final number of end targets, which is referenced in the top right corner of each challenge card.
Each token has a different function. For example the beam splitter splits the beam into two paths, one reflected 90 degrees and the other passes straight through the token. The checkpoint doesn't split the beams or reflect it but the lazer beam must pass through in order to correctly solve the challenge. When you think you have successfully completed the challenge flip the card over and see if you've placed every token where it belongs.
Is It Fun?
While the idea of bringing lazers into a game seems like a fun concept, overall the gameplay wasn't as engaging as you'd expect. We think this is a puzzle game best suited for kids that have the patience to solve the puzzle and enjoy games that might take a while to solve. What we do like however is that there are a lot of challenges so once you get into the game there is a lot of opportunity for repeat play.
Who It’s For
Lazer Maze is for ages 8 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
The lazer beam is difficult to see and fades after you hit the button and you won't be able to see the lazer's projected route. It will only appear once you hit the intended targets.
