What It Is
Smart Books Sesame Street Elmo's Special Delivery tells the story of Elmo delivering a package to Oscar the Grouch. The book is adapted by Eric Furman from the book Elmo Says Achoo, written by Sarah Albee. The illustrations are by Tom Brannon. In the story, the mailman mistakenly delivers a package to Elmo, and Elmo takes it upon himself to give the package to its rightful owner. But on the way, something tickles Elmo's nose causing him to sneeze and sneeze and sneeze some more, with silly results. Throughout the 28-page book, you'll find 12 QR codes. When you scan them using your smart device, you'll be taken to a YouTube page where you can watch an animation of what you've just read and hear Elmo read that part of the story aloud. At the end of the book, there is a QR code to scan that will allow you to watch all of the animations together as a "movie".
Is It Fun?
First and foremost, this is a book for preschoolers starring Elmo and other Sesame Street characters. You don't have to scan the QR codes if you don't want to. You can just read the book as a book. However, some kids will enjoy watching the story come to life through animation and hearing Elmo narrate the story.
Who It’s For
This book is not age-graded, but we think it will appeal to Sesame Street fans ages 2–5.
What To Be Aware Of
Scanning the QR codes takes you to the animation on a YouTube channel that does have ads and links to other videos. It's recommended that parents monitor their child's online activities.
In order to use the QR codes in the book, you must have a smart device with a QR code scanner app. Most QR code scanner apps are free to download.
Scanning the QR codes may incur data charges, depending on you data plan.
