What It Is
Candy Crush Saga from King, Ltd. is a single-player puzzle app game. Players must align similar colorful candy pieces to clear the rows on the board. Players can create rows or columns with three candies of the same color to remove them, make combinations with 4 or 5 candies to create special sweets, and combine the special sweets to create effects that crush even more candy. Players starts the game with five lives.
There are currently 385 levels to play, as of review time, and as you progress, the levels and gameplay varies, so no two levels are alike. Additional levels require players to score a certain amount of points in a set time and bring down ingredients for a recipe or clear jelly wrappers before you run out of moves or lives.
Is It Fun?
Candy Crush Saga is truly a game for all ages. It is easy to play, but takes ingenuity to master. While the gameplay borders on being addictive and simple, it still requires strategy. The game is structured with built-in tutorials to get you playing quickly, but if you fail at a level, which you will, you can go back and try again.
Kids will also love the fun candy-popping effects of the special sweets, color bombs, and swimming jelly fish.
Who It’s For
Candy Crush is best suited for ages 7 and up, although younger kids may get frustrated with some of the more complex levels and required strategy.
What To Be Aware Of
The game is free to download, but there are in-app purchases if you want extra moves or lives. You can avoid paying for extras by asking Facebook friends to give you gifts. This feature won't be popular with a lot of adults or parents. However, the longer-term play makes the 99-cent cost for new levels seem very reasonable.
Purchases can give you power-ups but do not guarantee you'll complete a tricky level.
Parents can turn off in-app purchases and sound effects under settings.
The game is currently available in the App Store across all iOS devices and through Facebook and King.com. If you chose to sync your Facebook account with the game, you can compete against your friends to earn the highest score in each level.
