What It Is
The Playskool Showcam is a two-in-one digital camera and projector, modeled to look like an adult's DSLR. Turn on the camera by flipping the green button on the back up. Then choose between the two modes of play—camera mode and projector mode—by flipping the switch on the side. In camera mode, take aim at your subject, which is previewed in the viewfinder. Then press the big orange button on the back to take a photo. Activate the stamp, stories, and animation feature by pressing the smiley face button on the back before taking a photo. In this setting choose between seven face-in-hole scenes and 42 silly animated stamps.
Switch to projector mode and scroll through your photos manually. Press the orange shutter button to make a curtain draw back and a round of applause start for each of your photos. Or press the smiley face button for one to five slideshow themes based on the stamps you selected.
Is It Fun?
Young kids will like how the stamp, stories, and animation feature can make their friends look like they are flying like a superhero or wearing a silly pair of sunglasses. We also like that while modern cameras are getting smaller, this one is built for little hands with its large, easy-to-use buttons and switches. It's also sturdy for those times when it does get dropped.
Who It’s For
The suggested age range for the Playskool Showcam 2-in-1 digital camera and projector is 3–7. However we think its best suited for ages 3–5. An older child will want something more modern and compact.
What To Be Aware Of
The picture quality of the projector works best at around two feet from the projection surface, too close and the image becomes too pixelated and too far away and the image blurs.
There is an auto shutdown feature, which will activate if the camera is left on unused for about two minutes.
The camera holds up to 1000 photos which can be downloaded via the USB port to a computer. A USB cable is required, but not included.
Four AA batteries are also required but not included.
Showcams are available in two color schemes: white, pink, and purple; and grey, blue, and green.
