What It Is
Bop It! Tetris is a smart new addition to the Bop It! line of games. Tetris, as you probably know, is one of the most popular video games of all time. Players race to clear rows of Tetraminos by dropping them into a grid, fitting them together, and leaving no spaces until the playing field fills up and no more spaces can be filled. Each successive round goes faster and faster until it's virtually impossible to beat the clock as you try to rotate the pieces to fit. Bop It! is known for physical games that challenge players' speed and dexterity and usually result in hilarity. This mash-up game takes the best of both games and creates an irresistible and addictive game. There are two screens on this handheld game. The slam screen gives you the shapes, and the game screen is where you have to match the shapes.
There are two ways to play. In the Match Marathon version, slam it to start and twist and slam to fit the shapes into the puzzle. When you miss, you lose a life, and you get four lives per game. When you reach a certain level, you can boost your points through the challenge round, but you only get one life there so you better be fast. You can also play a Pass It version where players can be eliminated when they miss, and the last player left in the game is the winner.
There are different levels to unlock as you get more proficient that includes additional lights and squares. The game directions show you how the levels work. There are hundreds of puzzles built into this.
Is It Fun?
This game is engaging, challenging, and lots of fun for solo or group play. Fans of Bop It! games will instantly recognize the sarcastic voice that eggs you on and insults you for getting things wrong. It's kind of funny, but if you start to get a little tired of it, you can play in silent mode. The game, however, won't ever get tired.
Who It’s For
Bop It! Tetris is for ages 8 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
Three AA batteries are included, but they power the in-store try-me features. Hasbro recommends replacing them before you play for best results.
There are three levels of sound. If you're playing in a party situation with a lot of ambient noise, you'll appreciate that.
We had a little trouble figuring out the instructions at first, but with a little patience and trial and error, we soon got the hang of it.
