What It Is
The new World Series of Yahtzee game is a fast-paced, casino-inspired dice showdown where everyone rolls together and tries to match their dice to the Yahtzee combination cards on the board. There are different dice combos, some worth more points than others: Yahtzee, Large Straight, Small Straight, Full House, 4 of a Kind, and 3 of a Kind.
Each player takes five dice of the same color. Shuffle the game cards and place eight cards face up on the board. These are the cards you want to win with your dice. Stack the remaining cards face down by the board. This is the play pile. Everyone rolls at the same time. Hold any wanted dice to one side and continue rolling the others. Keep rolling until your dice match a card. When you have the match you want, hit your buzzer to "lock in". A musical countdown will begin. You must not roll any more dice once you've pressed your buzzer. The other players now have just five seconds to roll a match and lock in by pressing their buzzers. If you don't buzz in, your turn is over.
After the music ends, everyone stops buzzing and looks to see which buzzer is lit red. That player locked in first and gets to take the card that matches his dice. Then he hits his buzzer once more to end his turn. The second player that locked in will see his buzzer then light up. He takes his matching card and hits his buzzer again. The third and fourth players collect their cards in the same way.
If another player takes the card matching your dice, you've busted out of the round. But look at the cards closely to see if your dice match another card. If your buzzer doesn't light up, you didn't lock in before the five seconds ran out, which means you don't get to take a card. If you pressed your buzzer and have no matching card, press your buzzer anyway to end your turn.
To continue play, fill any empty card spaces with cards from the play pile. Keep rolling, buzzing, and collecting until all the cards have been won. Add up the points on your cards. The player with the highest score wins.
The game includes 20 dice, 22 game cards, one electronic unit, a gameboard, four barriers, and a game guide. The game is for two to four players.
Is It Fun?
Unlike original Yahtzee, World Series of Yahtzee has every player playing at the same time, which makes the game more frantic and fun. There's a little bit of strategy in the game. You want to roll your dice and get a high scoring card, but you don't want to miss out on the chance to get any card by not "locking in". You've got to pay attention to what the other players are doing (for example, did someone press their buzzer?) and remember what the cards are on the board so you know what you're rolling for.
