What It Is
The Wince—Don't Feed the Worry Bug eBook is based on the original children's book Don't Feed the Worry Bug by Andi Green. Both the book and the eBook take kids through the life of Wince who is quite the worrier. He worries so much that a worry bug comes along and starts to eat all those worries that Wince has. This just causes Wince to have more worries and the bug to grow and grow and grow in size. The story ends well with Wince learning how to control his worries and the Worry bug no longer bugging Wince.
The eBook has so many features to support your child in experiencing the text in a different way than you can with a traditional book. On each page there is light interactivity that is connected to the story. Our favorite page is where kids can record their worries into the app and feed them to the worry bug. Kids love to point out how the worry bug is growing in size, especially on the page where he gets as big as the kitchen.
Is It Fun?
The developers of this eBook did a very good job of not putting so much into the app that kids get distracted from what is most important—the lesson about understanding our worries. The images and hotspots have been designed to help kids make sense of the language and emotions that Wince is struggling with.
We highly recommend this app but think there is more value when paired with the original book, which is sold separately, while reading together with your child. The plush Wince toys, sold separately, are also perfect for the home and the classroom. Wince's big ears are a wonderful place for kids to share their worries.
