What It Is

Run Wild is a card game where players race to get rid of their cards by creating sets and runs in the middle of the table. If you don't have the right cards, just grab from a set or run that's already on the table or play your cards on any existing set or run.

The dealer deals out the entire deck of cards so that each player, including the dealer, has the same number of cards. Players stack their cards into personal draw piles, then draws eight cards from his or her draw pile to form a hand. There are no turns. When the dealer says, "Go!", players may do any of the following six actions at any time and in any order:

1. play a set or run

2. play a Wild card

3. draw a card

4. add a card to a set or run

5. take a card from a set or run

6. play a Draw 3 card

A set is three or more cards of any single number, regardless of color. A run is three or more cards of the same color in numerical order. A Wild card may be used in place of any Number card as part of a set or run. If you play a Draw 3 card, all the other players must immediately draw three cards from their draw piles.

Players continue to draw and play cards until someone has played all of the cards from his or her hand. That player says, "Out!" and all other players stop playing immediately. Each player scores points based on what cards are left in their hands. You get five points for a Number card, 10 points for each Wild card, and 10 points for each Draw 3 card. That completes one round. Play continues until four rounds have been played. The player with the lowest number of points after four rounds wins.

The game comes with 72 Run Wild cards, 60 Number cards (1–12 in blue, green, yellow, red, and purple), nine Wild cards, three Draw 3 cards, rules, and a deluxe card case. The game is for two to four players.

Is It Fun?

Run Wild is a fast-paced card game that sort of reminds us of Rummy. It's easy to learn how to play but challenging as players try to quickly find number matches and place numbers in sequence in order to get rid of their cards first.

There's a balance of luck in the order you draw your cards and a little bit of skill in the ability for players to see the different combinations in their hands quickly.

Of course the time pressure adds excitement to the play.
