What It Is
It's a Chicken is a drawing game for kids featuring a clucking electronic timer. The object of the game is to be the first player to reach the finish space. Players take turns picking a card and placing it in the card holder out of view of the other players. Roll the die to see whether you'll be drawing the red, yellow, or white word on the card. Decide which drawing sheet to use, press the timer, and start drawing using the circle or circles on the paper you selected. The timer counts down the points and crows when time is almost up. While the timer is ticking, players call out what they think the player is drawing.
If the word is guessed within the time limit, the drawer presses on the timer to stop it. Both the drawer and the person who guessed correctly move as many spaces on the game board as the timer last called out.
If the word is not guessed within the time limit, the word card is placed on the bottom of the deck, and it's the next player's turn. No players move on the game board.
The game continues until one player gets to the finish space. (An exact count is not needed.) That player is the winner.
It's a Chicken comes with a game board, electronic timer, six movers, 50 word cards, one card holder, two drawing pads with pre-printed circles, a die, and a pencil. It is for three to six players.
Is It Fun?
It's a Chicken is sort of like a younger version of Pictionary. Kids don't have to be great artists in order to draw in this game because the circles on the pre-printed paper act as a guide to get kids started. And it's fun to listen to the chicken cluck away as you play.
Who It’s For
It's a Chicken is for ages 5 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
Three AAA batteries are required but not included.
The game recommends that young players always use the white word on the card and copy as best they can the accompanying picture above the word. For instance, if the word is "dog," the card has a pre-drawn image of a dog.
The timer is very loud, and there is no volume control. But it needs to be loud so that players can hear it even as they are shouting out possible answers.
