The iPieces Fishing Game is part of a line of classic games that have been developed for the iPad. Download the free app from the Apple App Store and you're ready to play. Like the classic mechanical fishing games, your goal is to get as many fish into your bucket before they're all caught. To catch a fish, wait for its mouth to open, then place your fishing rod-shaped pawn on top of it and drag it to your bucket. The game is for two to four players, and it can get pretty hectic the more players you have. Watch out for the heron and the pike that can tangle up your fishing expedition. If you bump into the pike who is under the water, you'll lose your fish. If you don't keep your bucket covered, the heron will come in and snatch a fish. The game comes with four fishing rod pawns that are abrasion-resistant, so you can use them on the iPad and not worry about scratching the screen.
This is a great use of the iPad, and it's a simple enough game that even young kids can get the hang of it. With the tiny pieces and compact package, it's easy to take the fun anywhere you go.
iPieces Fishing Game is for ages 4 and up.
The fishing rod pawns are easy to hold and they're conductive, but don't lift them off the screen or you'll lose your catch. Also, you'll want to make sure that you hold them with three fingers to maximize the connectivity.
You could conceivably play this for free if you use your finger instead of the fishing rods, but it's a lot more fun if you buy and use the game pieces, particularly when there is more than one player.
